Flowers, Mother Nature's Hallmark Cards

Flowers...

Smiling colorful faces ranging from the brightest of whites to the deepest of crimsons with every shade of blush, indigo and orange in between. Fragile and short-lived but with the ability to make everything seem better. Therapy in bouquet form to please all five senses.
Is it any wonder we use them to show appreciation and to apologize, to celebrate and to mourn, to rejuvinate and to nourish?
Flowers, for me, can evoke a precious memory or symbolize the start of a new tradition. I never see a tiger lily without thinking of my mother or a peony without memories of my Grandma J.

Daisies and sunflowers are the smiling faces of children at play while roses are southern ladies basking on laticed verandas sipping sweet tea.

Flowering vines are multi-tasking women in designer power-suits climbing the corporate ladder.

Lacy lilac blooms are elderly ladies crocheting doilies and sharing stories amid the scent of talcum powder.

After my recent vacation scarlet ginger blossoms and vivid orange hibiscus will forever awaken memories of crashing indigo waves, the way 'green' smells and fish fresh from the sea. They will always represent, for me, the most simple of happiness and the purest of joys. What better or more thoughtful gift to receive?

As the days grow longer and the sun more warm, I wait (patiently, sort of ) for the first dandelion to nod it's buttery yellow head outside my door but to tide me over I have fallen ready victim to my local supermarket tulip selection and brought home five lucious bubble gum pink blooms to share my coffee with each morning. Pretty reasonable company for $4.99...a greeting card for your soul.

Cheers to Spring!

Ever since my last (and first) post, I've had the colors of summer swirling around in my head. Perhaps brought on by the fact my immediate world has been pure white for some months now.

So while I enjoyed my frosty morning jog today I knew it was time to release some of my 'sunshine ideas' into creative reality. This is when my run took a detour that took to my local jewelery supply store (known affectionately to me as 'Candyland'). Awaiting me inside were all the materials I needed to bring my imaginings to life.

A few (eep) dollars later I jogged home with a huge grin centered right smack in the middle of my touque-bedecked head.

The first insprations out of the gate: Gentle Spring blossoms, sunflowers, limes, tangerines and lemonade strung together by sunshine...I can almost smell the grill :)

Cheers to Spring!

A Kick in the Creative Bum

Happy New Year!

With windchills taking the temperature down to -20 something and daylight in short supply is it any wonder I have not felt inspired? Bah!

I awoke three days ago to the epiphany "IS THERE A better TIME TO CREATE??"

So I drug my paints and some canvas in from my frigid studio (garage) and now my kitchen and dining rooms are overrun with drop cloths, water buckets and brushes but you know what??? I'm painting and, therefore, I'm happy!

The resulting canvas is called 'Lemons to Lemonade' and is pictured here. In it I see sunshine, orange soda, bright beach umbrellas and happy surf. A trip to the beach without the 3-hour security line-up. I can almost feel the sand between my toes....
